Lyon have contacted Liverpool and Chelsea target Hatem Ben Arfa's representatives over a possible summer move.

The Nice attacking midfielder will be a free agent in the summer, having joined the club on a one-and-half-year deal from Newcastle United in January 2015.

Ben Arfa has been in superb form this season, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.

The 29-year-old’s impressive displays attracted the attention of several top European clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan.

It was even claimed that Ben Arfa visited Barcelona earlier in the week to check the club’s facilitates, but the Frenchman denied those reports.

Now it seems there is a new twist in the transfer saga, with Lyon entering the race for the signature of Ben Arfa, who played at the club between 2004 and 2008 after spending two years in the youth ranks of the French giants.

And Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas insists that the club have already put forward an offer to the player’s representatives.

"We are in talks with Ben Arfa and have made an offer", he told beIN Sports.

"He is one of our priorities and he wants to come back. He has been receptive."

Ben Arfa, who also counts Marseille and Hull City amongst his former employers, has 15 caps and two goals for France to his name.
