Napoli are ready to offer a fresh contract to Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, who has recently been linked with Premier League side Arsenal.

The 28-year-old forward has been one of the top marksmen in Europe this season, but his flurry of goals were not enough to stop Juventus from winning their fifth Serie A title on the trot.

The Argentine is said to be frustrated with Napoli’s failure to challenge Juventus’ domination in Italy or compete for top honours in Europe and is said to be considering his future at the San Paolo.

Arsenal are the latest club from England linked with wanting to sign Higuain in the summer and even Paris Saint-Germain are plotting to snare him away from the San Paolo at the end of the season.

Napoli remain keen to hold on to their top star this summer and according to Sky Italia, the club are currently working on a bumper new contract offer for the Argentine forward.

It has been suggested that the Serie A outfit are ready to increase his salary to €8m per season in order to convince him to stay rooted to the San Paolo beyond the summer.

Napoli signed the forward from Real Madrid in 2013 and he has thus far scored 88 goals in 145 appearances for the club.

His contract with Napoli runs until the summer of 2018.
