Chelsea legend Clive Walker feels Newcastle United thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 on Sunday was "embarrasing" for the Magpies as it showed just what they are capable of.

Newcastle took to the pitch at St. James' Park already relegated from the Premier League, but met a Spurs side with something to play for as they looked to hold on to second place amid a challenge from north London rivals Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino's men were blown away by Newcastle, who even increased their advantage from 3-1 to 5-1 after the sending off of striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in the 68th minute.

Walker is surprised at how easily Spurs were swatted aside by Newcastle and feels it was embarrasing for the Magpies to show what they can do after they have already been relegated.

"I think it's embarrassing from Newcastle's perspective", Walker said on Chelsea TV after the Blues' drew with Leicester.

"Playing against a Spurs side who we've watched all season, and they have been good, they've scored lots of goals and been terrific.

"But to go to Newcastle, you expect them to go there and win, especially with the prize of being above Arsenal", Walker continued.

"That's embarrasing from Newcastle's perspective because they are going to say 'where's that been all season?'"

Newcastle will play their football in the Championship next term and it remains to be seen whether Rafael Benitez will still be in charge of the club as he weighs up his future.
