Liverpool legend John Aldridge feels Jordon Ibe has “frightening potential”, following the youngster’s wonder goal in the 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

The 20-year-old scored his maiden Premier League goal when he went on a powerful run and finished coolly to score the equaliser at the Hawthorns.

Ibe has scored four goals and provided as many assists in 41 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in the present campaign.

And Aldridge, who explained that he expected Ibe to take Raheem Sterling’s position after the England international went to Manchester City last summer, however, admitted that the winger failed to reach the desired level.

But the former Liverpool striker thinks the goal against West Brom will help Ibe to kick-start his career at Anfield.

“It's in his locker. This guy's got it”, Aldridge told LFC TV after the game.

“When Sterling went I thought let's see you progress. And as young lads do, he's had a little bit of a knock off effect, but he'll come again.

“Hopefully that's the start of things to come because there's so much potential in the lad it's frightening.”

Ibe, who joined Liverpool from Wycombe Wanderers in December 2012, is contracted with the Merseyside giants until 2020.

He is yet to earn a senior cap for England, but has represented the nation up to Under-21 level.
