Manchester United are still in the picture to sign Benfica playmaker Nicolas Gaitan, who is also being courted by Atletico Madrid, according to Portuguese sports daily A Bola.

The 28-year-old Argentine has been constantly linked with a move away from Benfica for years, but Gaitan has continued to turn out for the Portuguese giants season after season.

With the summer transfer window approaching, the rumours surrounding his future are back on the agenda and it has been claimed Gaitan could be on his way to Spain this summer.

It has been suggested Diego Simeone is an admirer of his countryman and is keen to take him to the Calderon this time around; he has asked Atletico Madrid to consider signing the playmaker.

However, Manchester United, who have been linked with a move for Gaitan for half-a-decade, are also expected to be in the fray again if he decides to finally leave Benfica in the summer.
