Josh Windass has written an emotional tribute to Accrington Stanley as he prepares to join Rangers upon the expiration of his contract with the League Two outfit in the summer.

During the January transfer window, Windass, along with his Accrington team-mate Matt Crooks, signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers.

Windass, who started his senior career with non-league club Harrogate Railway Athletic, was snapped up by Accrington in 2013.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has thus far made 85 appearances in all competitions for the Wham Stadium outfit, scoring 22 times and providing 17 assists.

And Windass sincerely thanked Accrington for believing in him when no other club were willing to bet on him.

However, the youngster did not hide his disappointment as the club failed to gain promotion to League One after losing to AFC Wimbledon in the playoffs.

“With the club, the players, the management staff past and most of all present, the people behind the scenes. My time here has been amazing and set my career off”, he posted on Twitter.

“Gave me first team experience when nobody else was willing to take the chance. I’ve played with some amazing and under-rated players since I’ve been here and none more so than the current squad.

“I’ve won awards personally and improved my game vastly and that’s due to the staff and people here.

“I’m sorry we couldn’t top it off with a promotion and end it on the ultimate high.”

Windass scored 16 times and set up seven goals in 34 appearances in all competitions this season.
