Granit Xhaka appears to be nearing a move to Arsenal after he headed to England for his medical with the Premier League side.

Arsenal have been hoping to do a quick deal for the Borussia Monchengladbach captain, who wants his future to be resolved ahead of Euro 2016 this summer.

But it had been claimed their first offer for the midfielder, which came in at €25m, had put any thoughts of a deal in doubt given Gladbach value Xhaka at closer to the €50m mark.

However, the deal looks to be in its advanced stages as according to Germany daily the Rheinische Post, Xhaka is in London to undergo a medical with Arsenal.

The transfer is expected to be completed at some time over the coming week and it remains to be seen how much Arsenal will be paying to sign Gladbach's captain.

Gladbach have already identified a replacement for Xhaka in the shape of Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Rode.

The signing of Xhaka will mean Arsenal have done something they did not manage last summer, namely signing an outfield player.

Last summer Arsenal only signed goalkeeper Petr Cech, from Chelsea.
