Germany boss Joachim Low feels Mario Gotze needs a change of scenery and should play under a new coach who wants him.

The 23-year-old, who has thus far failed to make his mark at Bayern Munich, is expected to quit the Bavarians in the summer.

Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have been heavily linked with making a move for Gotze, whose present contract with Bayern Munich runs until 2017.

Since joining the German champions from Dortmund in 2013, the attacking midfielder has made 114 appearances in all competitions, scoring 36 times and providing 24 assists.

And Low, who has included Gotze in his preliminary squad for the European Championship in France, thinks the youngster needs to play under a manager who would want him in the team.

“Generally a change can be helpful as it provides a new environment, new challenges and a fresh stimulus [to the player]”, he told German daily Suddeutschen Zeitung.

"He needs a new coach who wants him in his team; however it is not a criticism of Bayern Munich now or Pep Guardiola.”

It remains to be seen whether Gotze wants to return to his boyhood club Dortmund or link up with his former manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, especially as the Reds will not be involved in Europe at all next season.
