Ronald de Boer has blasted Rangers for being sloppy in possession against Hibernian at Hampden Park on Saturday as the Gers suffered defeat to Alan Stubbs' men in the Scottish Cup final.

Hibs took an early lead through Anthony Stokes in the final, but a powerful Kenny Miller header in the 27th minute made sure matters were level when both teams headed in at the break.

Stubbs' men were expected to tire in the second half and Rangers did take the lead through Andy Halliday just past the hour mark. But an equaliser from Stokes (80th minute) and then a winner from David Gray, heading in from a Liam Henderson corner, in injury time meant Hibs claimed a famous 3-2 win and their first Scottish Cup since 1902.

For De Boer, Rangers were sloppy in possession and that only encouraged Hibs.

The Dutchman, who turned out for Rangers between 2000 and 2004, said on BBC Scotland: "I think the problem with Rangers was they didn't start touching the ball to each other because then they could let Hibs run.

"Hibs looked tired, but then Rangers gave them new energy by losing every ball", De Boer added.

As a result of the defeat Rangers will not now have Europa League football to look forward to next season and must focus on the Scottish Premiership.

The loss is also likely to mean boss Mark Warburton adds fewer players to his squad in the summer transfer window.
