Swiss giants FC Basel are set for a windfall when Granit Xhaka completes his move to Arsenal.

Xhaka is all but done with a switch to Arsenal from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee thought to be around £35m and photographs of him posing in the Gunners' new home kit surfaced on Saturday.

Basel will be due between three and four per cent of the fee due to FIFA rules over solidarity payments, given the Swiss side developed Xhaka, first in their youth ranks and then their first team, for over a decade.

The canny Swiss club though also regularly insert sell-on clauses into any agreements to let players move on, clauses which ensure they receive a percentage of the profit the selling club then make from a future deal.

According to Swiss daily Blick, Xhaka's move was no different and a clause worth somewhere between ten and twenty per cent of the profit Gladbach will make from selling the midfielder to Arsenal will come into effect.

Gladbach paid around £7.6m to sign Xhaka from Basel in 2012, meaning that £27.4m will be subject to a claim from the Swiss club.

Basel will therefore net between £2.74m and £5.48m from Gladbach choosing to sell the midfielder to Arsenal.

The Swiss side's resale clause only applies to Xhaka's first move.
