Mario Gotze's father has poured cold water on talk of his son joining Liverpool imminently and insists if a move had been lined up he would know about it.

Liverpool are keen on snapping up Gotze from Bayern Munich, where his future has been in doubt, but the attacking midfielder recently separated from his management agency and expressed his excitement at working under Carlo Ancelotti at the Allianz Arena next season.

It is unclear whether Gotze will be on the move and Jurgen Gotze, the player's father, insists he knows of no deal in place to take his son to Liverpool.

He told German daily the Suddeutsche Zeitung: "I know nothing of an alleged impending move to Liverpool.

"Mario is my son. We talk to each other. I would know..", he added.
