West Ham co-chairman David Gold is pleased to see Manchester United win the FA Cup as it means that the Hammers are in next season’s Europa League.

Manchester United were already in the Europa League after they finished fifth in the league table, but West Ham needed them to win the FA Cup to secure the last spot in the competition.

And Jesse Lingard’s thunderbolt strike in the second period of extra-time did exactly that for the Hammers; Manchester United won their first major piece of silverware in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era and West Ham sneaked into the Europa League.

Gold extended his commiserations to their London rivals Crystal Palace, but is delighted that the Hammers are in the Europa League at the end of a very good season for Slaven Bilic’s men.

The West Ham co-chairman took to Twitter and wrote: “Congratulations Man United.

Bilic will be delighted to welcome European opponents in West Ham’s first season at the Olympic Stadium.
