Manchester United are unlikely to announce Jose Mourinho as their new manager today due to contractual complexities, according to the BBC.

The Red Devils, who sacked Louis van Gaal last night, are set to appoint Mourinho as the Dutchman’s successor.

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will meet Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes later today.

But the Portuguese will not be named Manchester United’s new boss until the fine details of his contract have been ironed out.

Mourinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in December, has won the Premier League title three times during his two stints at Stamford Bridge.

He has also managed to secure league titles in Portugal, Italy and Spain, while winning the Champions League twice, with Porto and Inter Milan respectively.

However, Manchester United, who won the FA Cup at the weekend, will not be playing in the Champions League next season after finishing the 2015/16 campaign in fifth spot.
