Liverpool have completed a deal to sign goalkeeper Loris Karius from German Bundesliga outfit Mainz.

The shot-stopper is thought to be costing the Reds €10m, which was a release clause fee in his contract with Mainz, and has put pen to paper on what the Reds describe as a long-term deal after passing his medical.

Karius, 22, will provide competition for current Liverpool number 1 Simon Mignolet and it remains to be seen who boss Jurgen Klopp chooses to field between the sticks.

The German goalkeeper is delighted at the move and said he is honoured to have been given the chance to turn out for Liverpool, a club at which he feels the fans are special.

"It’s a very good feeling and it’s an honour to play for a club like this", he told Liverpool's official site.

"They have a special history and the fans are amazing here, so I look forward to playing at Anfield.

"I know a lot about the club from watching them on TV. The history, everybody who plays football knows. There a lot of things in my head when I think of this club."

Karius also revealed that a conversation with Klopp convinced him a move to Liverpool would be the right step in his career.

"I spoke to the manager and I had a good feeling afterwards because he told me what he wants to do with the club and with the players.

"It was a good talk with him and after that I was convinced this was the right decision", he added.

Karius will officially link up with Liverpool on 1st July.
