Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has called on new Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers to enjoy his time at Parkhead.

Rodgers, who was named Ronny Deila’s successor after the Norwegian parted ways with the club at the end of the season, was unveiled as the Hoops’ new manager yesterday.

The former Liverpool boss has been handed a one-year rolling contract by Celtic, who won just the Scottish Premiership title in the 2015/16 campaign, while faring poorly in cup competitions on both domestic and European fronts.

And Strachan, who enjoyed a successful spell as Celtic boss between 2005 and 2009, backed the Bhoys’ decision to appoint Rodgers as their new manager.

"Enjoy it. It's a fantastic place to work”, he was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

“I think it's going to be a right good season next year and I'm looking forward to it.

"I've not got a time machine but what I am saying is that it is a good appointment. A great appointment."

Rodgers, who was sacked by Liverpool in October, came desperately close to winning the Premier League title with the Reds in the 2013/14 campaign.

The Northern Irishman has also managed Watford, Reading and Swansea City, while being Chelsea’s youth coach between 2004 and 2008.
