Leeds United have made an official approach to speak to Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke.

Whites owner Massimo Cellino is looking for a replacement for head coach Steve Evans, who is out of contract at the end of June and is someone the Italian has shown no sign of wanting to keep in his post.

Cellino recently held talks with MK Dons boss Karl Robinson, but saw his approach rejected by the manager, who has decided he does not want to take over at Leeds.

Now Leeds are moving to speak to 38-year-old former Salisbury City boss Clarke, who led Bristol Rovers out of League Two and into League One this season.

According to the Bristol Post, Leeds have now made a formal approach to speak to Clarke.

Cellino is keen for Leeds to challenge for promotion to the Premier League next season and appears to believe Clarke could be the right fit to take over at Elland Road.

However, with head coaches at the club only enjoying a short lifespan under the Italian, it remains to be seen if Clarke will be receptive to any offer made by Leeds.
