Former England and West Ham midfielder Trevor Sinclair feels Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is as good a coach tactically as Pep Guardiola.

Celtic appointed the former Liverpool boss as Ronny Deila’s successor and he was unveiled as their new manager yesterday in Glasgow, where the Northern Irishman talked about his pride at the opportunity.

Despite his struggles towards the end of his tenure at Anfield, Rodgers remains a well-respected British coach and Sinclair feels if he can sign the right kind of players, he can achieve success at Celtic.

The former England midfielder also insisted that tactically the former Liverpool manager is one of the best in the world and can be compared with incoming Manchester City boss Guardiola.

The ex-West Ham man said on BBC Radio 5 live: “I think for me, looking at what he did at Liverpool Football Club, especially the year when they nearly won the league, tactically he is as close to Pep as any other British manager.

“He is that good and if he goes up there and gets the recruitment right at Celtic, I think he could achieve phenomenal things.”

Rodgers has been tasked with continuing Celtic’s hegemony over Scottish football and is also expected to carry the club into the Champions League group stage next season.
