Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic are interested in signing former Leeds United forward Mirco Antenucci this summer, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

The 31-year-old striker played a key role for Leeds last season as the club managed to finish 13th in the league table, but the Whites decided against offering him a new deal.

Antenucci came close to returning to Italy in January and has been widely tipped to return to his homeland this summer, with clubs such as Hellas Verona and Pescara interested in the forward.

However, the Italian could still be seen playing in the Championship next season as promotied Wigan Athletic and Wolves, who finished 14th in the 2015/16 campaign, are eyeing a move for him.

The Latics are keen to sign an experienced striker such as Antenucci ahead of their return to the Championship, and Wolves feel the Italian could add more depth to their attacking reserves for the new season.

While a return to Italy is said to be the likelier outcome, Antenucci still remains a player in demand in English football’s second tier.

He notched up 19 goals in 80 appearances for Leeds during his two-season stay at Elland Road.
