Brendan Rodgers has raided Reading to make Chris Davies his assistant manager at Celtic, the Scottish champions have confirmed.

The former Liverpool boss, alongside whom Davies worked at Swansea City and Liverpool, is putting together his backroom staff after taking over Celtic on a 12-month rolling contract.

Davies is currently first team coach at Championship club Reading, but is answering Rodgers' call and will take up his role at the Bhoys on 1st June.

Rodgers is delighted to have secured Davies and told Celtic's official site he is sure his new assistant will have a positive impact on the club.

Rodgers said: "I am delighted to bring Chris to Celtic, he is a magnificent coach and someone I know will make a hugely positive contribution to the club.

"He is ready and prepared for the challenge at Celtic and I know that Chris, like myself, can’t wait to get get going next season", Rodgers continued.

"He has worked with me previously, he is someone I know and trust and he will be a great addition to my team and to the club."

Rodgers and Davies will be looking to prepare Celtic throughout pre-season as the Scottish giants attempt to reach the group stage of the Champions League, something they failed to do under the Northern Irishman's predecessor Ronny Deila.

The former Liverpool boss is expected to make further additions over the coming two weeks.
