Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf is not happy with Jose Mourinho’s impending move to Manchester United and has termed it "treachery".

Manchester United sacked Louis van Gaal on Monday night and have been in talks with Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes since yesterday over a deal that would see the Portuguese take the reins at Old Trafford.

It has been suggested that personal terms have been agreed and the club are just ironing out the final clauses of the contract, but former Chelsea defender Leboeuf is not too happy about the whole situation.

Despite being sacked in December, Mourinho remains an immensely popular figure at Stamford Bridge and retained the support of the fans despite Chelsea’s poor performance at the start of the season.

And Leboeuf feels that keeping all that in mind, the former Chelsea boss could have chosen a different club other than Manchester United, who are their direct rivals.

The former defender told French radio station RMC: “It’s treachery.

“I am a former Chelsea player and I support the club now; Jose could have gone anywhere except Manchester United, especially after his escapades with Sir Alex Ferguson.

“I always thought that when we belong to an English club, we could not go to another. It bothers me a little.

“But I understand his career path and he does what he wants to do.”

Manchester United are expected to confirm Mourinho’s appointment sometime later this week.
