Stoke City have made an initial offer to Zenit St. Petersburg for Belgian midfielder Axel Witsel for a move in the summer transfer window.

Witsel has been linked with a move away from Zenit since last year and there was even talk that AC Milan were close to signing him during the January transfer window, but the Belgian remained in Russia.

Roma are said to be interested in the midfielder this summer, and are considering making an offer for Witsel, but it seems a Premier League outfit have stolen a march on the Serie A giants.

Stoke City are currently doing all the running to sign the midfielder from Zenit, and according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, the club have put forward a €15m initial bid for Witsel.

Stoke finished ninth in the Premier League table this season and Mark Hughes is looking to make key additions this summer to take the club forward in the 2016/17 campaign.
