Georginio Wijnaldum’s agent admits that his client has a decision to make regarding his future after Newcastle United suffered relegation this season.

The Magpies paid big money to sign the Dutch midfielder from PSV Eindhoven last summer, and despite him being one of the more impressive performers, Wijnaldum couldn’t stop their descent to the Championship.

With Rafael Benitez agreeing to lead Newcastle’s bid to earn promotion next season, the club are hoping that top players such as Wijnaldum stick around to help them return to the Premier League.

However, Humphry Nijman, the player’s agent, admits that Wijnaldum has a decision to make ahead of the prospect of playing in English football’s second tier.

Speaking to Italian news outlet La Roma, the midfielder’s agent said: “The situation for Wijnaldum is currently very simple.

“Newcastle have been relegated to the second division and now the player has to think about his future.”

Wijnaldum has been recently linked with a move to Roma, but the Nijman insisted that he cannot say anything more on his client’s future at the moment and suggested that any transfer fee will be decided by Newcastle.

On the Roma link, Wijnaldum’s agent said: “At the moment I cannot say anything more and I cannot talk about negotiations.

“Roma are a great club and are one of the best in Europe.

“The club takes a decision on the player’s price; I only take care of Wijnaldum’s contract.”
