Southampton and Queens Park Rangers are interested in signing Cesena midfielder Franck Kessie during the summer transfer window, according to Sky Italia.

Cesena’s dreams of playing in Serie A ended earlier this week when they went down to Spezia in the playoffs, but it seems young Kessie could be set for bigger things in the transfer window.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder, who is on loan at Cesena from Atalanta, was one of the key reasons behind their impressive season in the second tier of Italia football and his performances have attracted the interest of bigger clubs in Europe.

Scouts from QPR and Southampton were in attendance to watch the youngster earlier this week and the English duo are considering making an offer for him in the summer.

Southampton might have the advantage in the chase as they will be able to provide Premier League football to the Ivory Coast midfielder, but he is expected to see more first team action at Loftus Road.

It remains to be seen whether the Ivorian decides to move to England so early in his career or looks to make further strides next season in Italian football when he returns to Atalanta this summer.

The youngster is already an Ivory Coast international and has four caps to his name.
