New Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told his players to listen up, telling them he wants the last three years to be forgotten and to focus on winning.

Mourinho has succeeded Louis van Gaal in the dugout at Old Trafford, bouncing back quickly from being sacked at Chelsea in December this year.

Manchester United have recorded finishes of seventh, fourth and fifth over the last three years, slipping down from their previously dominant position in English football.

Mourinho wants to turn the tide and has told his new players that he wants them to become winners, forgetting recent disappointments.

"I think we can look at our club now in two perspectives. One perspective is the last three years and another perspective is the club history", Mourinho explained to MUTV.

"I think I prefer to forget the past three years, I prefer to focus on the giant club I have in my hands now and I think what the fans are expecting me to say is that I want to win.

"I think the players need to listen – I want to win", he added.

Mourinho's first match in charge of Manchester United will be a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai, China, on 22nd July.

Following that, the Red Devils lock horns with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in another friendly in China, this time in Beijing, on 25th July.
