Former Rangers defender Hugh Burns feels Leigh Griffiths is currently the only Celtic player who would get into the Gers team.

The Ibrox outfit, who were beaten 2-0 by Celtic in the Scottish League Cup in the 2014/15 campaign, extracted revenge by edging out the Hoops on penalties in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup this season.

Although Rangers lost the final 3-2 to Hibernian last weekend, it was a season to remember for the Gers as they returned to the top flight for the first time in four years after securing the Scottish Championship title.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton also guided the club to the Challenge Cup trophy on a shoe-string budget.

On the other hand, Celtic claimed their fifth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, but they fared poorly in cup competitions which led to the club replacing Ronny Deila with Brendan Rodgers.

Griffiths was Celtic’s best player last season, with the striker scoring 40 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions.

And Burns thinks despite Rangers having a young and inexpensive squad, presently no one from Celtic other than Griffiths could break into Warburton’s team.

“I remember being at the last Old Firm game at Hampden, we lost 2-0, got an absolute doing and let's be honest, we were happy to get away with a 2-0”, he said while assessing the season on Rangers TV.

“So on a shoe-string, on a budget, compared to where this team had been before, to have assembled the team we've assembled, in that short space of time, has been incredible.

“You look at the Old Firm right now and I asked my old dad before the Old Firm game 'who would you take out of the Celtic team and put in the Rangers team?'.

“My dad sat and was thinking is there anybody actually good enough to come and play in the Rangers team right now.

“And he mentioned Leigh Griffiths as the only player he would take, as a goalscorer.”
