Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has had his say on potential successors Darrell Clarke and Karl Robinson, while remaining diplomatic over the club's right to pick who leads them next season.

Evans is out of contract at the end of June and has been left hanging on his future, while Leeds supremo Massimo Cellino has been speaking to candidates to replace him.

Robinson, who was in charge of MK Dons this season, has already knocked back the chance to succeed Evans, despite meeting with Cellino.

Now Leeds are chasing Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke and are attempting to thrash out compensation with the newly promoted League One side in order to speak to the 38-year-old.

Evans does not want to pass judgement on those who might succeed him at Leeds and has insisted it is for the Whites board to decide who they want as head coach.

"I don't know Darrell Clarke, but I've had a few conversations with him in the past", he said on BBC Radio Leeds this morning.

"He got relegated to the Conference, but he's brought a good football club back to League One with two consecutive promotions.

"I've been down there in the Conference and League One and Two and it's very difficult – it's a tough job.

"But he's managed to get them over the line in the last few seconds of the last game.

"In respect to Karl he's had a poor season when they've got relegated", Evans continued.

"But the facts are Mr Cellino must be looking at them for reasons he sees that he should be looking at them.

"I can't say whether they are good or bad, that a decision for the Leeds United board."
