Former Leeds United striker Andy Ritchie is of the opinion that it would be difficult for foreign managers to succeed at Elland Road.

The Whites, who are yet to offer Steve Evans a new deal, have still not decided who their head coach will be next season.

Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke was heavily linked with the Leeds job, but the 38-year-old signed a fresh three-year deal with the newly promoted League One club on Friday.

The Yorkshire giants suffered their second setback on the same day after another of their managerial targets, John Sheridan, joined Notts County from Oldham Athletic.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino is also looking abroad to find Evans’ successor, with Ivan Juric, Walter Zenga, Diego Lopez and Fabio Cannavaro amongst others being on the Italian’s radar.

But Ritchie feels bringing a foreign coach to Leeds is a gamble which will not work due to the “massive culture shock.”

“If Cellino was to go for a Serie B manager it’s a massive culture shock isn’t it?

"How much do they know about the league over here? Probably nothing or very little”, Ritchie wrote in his column in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I think that would be massive gamble, for me.

“I just don’t think that would work.”
