Rangers winger Barrie McKay is looking forward to representing Scotland and is keen to pick up things from experienced Scottish internationals in the coming week or so.

The winger enjoyed an impressive season for Rangers in the Championship and played an important role in the Gers earning promotion to the Scottish Premiership with his incisive performances on the flanks.

McKay has been duly rewarded with a call-up to the senior squad for the friendlies against Italy and France, and the 21-year-old is keen to impress on the international stage.

The winger admits that representing his country will be a big honour for him and he is keen to make his mark as he feels the standards at international level are higher than he has encountered so far.

He is also keen to learn from the seasoned professionals in the Scotland squad and make the most of his stint with the national team.

McKay told Rangers TV: “It means a lot to me and it’s a privilege to be called up for your country at any level, and having already played for the 21s, it means a lot to be called up for the senior squad for the first time.

“The standard here is really good and the boys here are playing at a really high level. They’re a great bunch too and have really made me feel at home.

“I can learn a lot from the experienced professionals, just as I can and have at Rangers with the likes of Kenny [Miller] and Lee [Wallace] being there.

“To be able to say you’ve even shared the same pitch as some of those players is great.”

McKay has scored nine goals and provided 13 assists for Rangers this season and has represented Scotland Under-21s.
