Viktor Fischer's move to Middlesbrough from Ajax has been backed by Denmark team-mate Christian Eriksen.

Boro, who won promotion to the Premier League from the Championship this season, swooped to snap up Fischer for a cut-price €5m, due to the winger having had his career blown off course with injury problems in recent years.

The 21-year-old remains highly rated and big things are expected from him at international level with Denmark, for whom he has already won eight senior caps.

Another Denmark international, and proven Premier League performer, Eriksen, has backed Fischer's decision to swap Ajax for Middlesbrough.

The Tottenham Hotspur star told Danish daily Ekstra Bladet: "It is positive.

"I spent some time talking to him about what he wants.

"I think, like him, that this is good", Eriksen added.

Fischer will be hoping to emulate his countryman in the Premier League, with Eriksen having established himself as a key man for Spurs following his own move from Ajax.

The young winger turned out 39 times in all competitions for Ajax last season, scoring eleven goals in the process.
