Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies believes Mauricio Pochettino had lunch with legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to pick his brains.

Pochettino met the Scot for lunch earlier this month and Davies says some of the Spurs players joked that he had done so to engineer a move to take over at Manchester United.

Any lingering fears were ended when Pochettino signed a new contract running until 2021 with Spurs recently, while Manchester United have just appointed Jose Mourinho on a new three-year deal.

And Davies feels that Pochettino used his lunch with Ferguson to pick the 74-year-old's brains about management.

"A few boys cracked jokes that he was going, but he signed a new contract the next day so all fears were out of the way", Davies was quoted as saying by beIN Sport.

"I like to think he was tapping up his experience and there was no ulterior motive.

"We have a club where everyone, players and staff, is trying to learn all the time.

"I think he spoke to someone like Alex Ferguson to pick his brain as part of his learning and where he can improve", the Wales international added.

Pochettino led Spurs to a finish of third in the Premier League this season and as such will have Champions League football on the agenda next term.

Mourinho though will have to be content with Europa League football as Manchester United finished in fifth and won the FA Cup.
