Harry Redknapp admits that Rangers new boy Joey Barton could cause "aggro" if things do not go his way next season.

Rangers have snapped Barton up on a two-year deal from Championship side Burnley, following the expiration of his contract at Turf Moor.

Barton played under Redknapp at QPR and although the former R's manager is a fan of the tough-tackling midfielder and recommended him to Burnley boss Sean Dyche, he admits that if things do not go his way then there could be trouble.

"He'll have his mood swings and if things don't go his way, there can be aggro. But, he wants to win", Redknapp was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"He's a real student of the game. He'll watch a million games. He'll be all over the place watching other teams play. He's interested in football. He'll watch every game on TV", Redknapp explained.

"He doesn't hold back. He's got strong opinions on the game. He gets people going. He'll be a big voice in that dressing room.

"He's got a real good understanding of football and his role in the game. You give him a job to do and he'll do the job."

And Redknapp backed Rangers boss Mark Warburton to get the best out of Barton during his spell at Ibrox.

"He'll be a good player for Rangers, I'm sure he will. I'm sure Mark Warburton will get the best out of him."

Barton has regularly courted controversy in his career and all eyes will be on the midfielder when he lines up for Rangers against Old Firm rivals Celtic next season.

Warburton has also added midfielder Jordan Rossiter to the ranks at Rangers this summer, scooping the midfielder up from Liverpool.

Josh Windass and Matt Crooks meanwhile are due to join later this summer when their contracts at Accrington Stanley expire.
