Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has revealed the club had already sold just under 25,000 season tickets by Thursday morning and are hoping to push up towards the 40,000 mark.

Excitement has gripped fans at Ibrox following a season which saw Mark Warburton's men win the Scottish Championship, the Scottish Challenge Cup and reach the final of the Scottish Cup, where they were narrowly edged out by Hibernian.

Hopes are high that the Gers can battle Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season and fans are backing that belief by making sure they have secured their seats.

Rangers sold 37,500 season tickets last term and are aiming for around 40,000 this year. However, they have not completely written off surpassing the club record, which stands at 43,000.

Robertson told Rangers TV: "The start of June is the deadline for season ticket renewals so I would urge people to renew as quickly as they can.

"Sales are going very well; we were just short of 25,000 as of Thursday morning, so we are delighted with the uptake so far.

"The chairman has been on record to say he would love to sell a record number of season tickets so we have started very well.

"I would love to get about 40,000, we ended up with 37,500 last season, I think the record is 43,000 and [chairman] Dave [King] said he would love to see a record number", the managing director continued.

And Robertson thinks that part of the reason fans are flocking to Ibrox is down to Warburton's emphasis on exciting, attacking football; the Gers scored 88 goals in 36 league games this season.

"So it’s not a target as such but I’d love to think we could maybe get there with the style of football we play and the signings we are about to make", he explained.

"I think the numbers is down to the football and at the end of the day we are a football club."
