Borussia Monchengladbach are desperate to sign defender Andreas Christensen on a permanent basis from Chelsea, using money banked from the sale of Granit Xhaka to get the job done.

The Bundesliga side sold midfielder Xhaka to Arsenal for €45m recently and are already planning to spend the money to strengthen their side.

A priority is to keep defender Christensen at the club permanently and according to German daily Bild, Gladbach are willing to pay Chelsea €20m for the Dane's signature.

However, Gladbach are aware that Chelsea may not be moved by a bid of €20m for a defender they rate highly and who has been spoken of as a potential successor to John Terry in the heart of the Blues backline.

Indeed, the Bundesliga club will offer Chelsea the chance to insert a buy-back clause into the deal, meaning they could re-sign Christensen at some point in the future.
