Sunderland loanee Emanuele Giaccherini has revealed that he wants to remain at Bologna.

The Italy international, who was snapped up by Sunderland from Juventus in 2013, joined Bologna on a season-long loan deal last summer after failing to make his mark in England.

Giaccherini managed to score just five goals and provide as many assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for Sunderland in the two seasons he spent at the Stadium of Light.

However, the 31-year-old, who is on the radar of Watford and Fiorentina, netted seven times and set up a goal in 28 Serie A games last season as he rediscovered his form.

And Giaccherini insisted that he is hopeful about extending his stay at Bologna, who finished the 2015/16 campaign in 14th spot.

"I hope and I want to stay in Emilia [the region where Bologna is located], because this is where I was raised”, he was quoted as saying by Italian daily Corriere della Sera.

Giaccherini, whose present contract with Sunderland runs until 2017, has 17 caps and three goals for Italy to his name.

The winger counts Cesena, Forli and Pavia amongst his former employers.
