Departed Leeds United boss Steve Evans is not ruling out a return to Scotland, amid the background of the job at Hibernian set to become available.

Current Hibs manager Alan Stubbs is expected to join one of Evans' former teams in the shape of Championship outfit Rotherham United, after holding talks with the Millers.

On Tuesday evening Evans was axed by Leeds, despite leading the Whites to 13th spot in the Championship table last season, when his remit was to keep the side away from relegation trouble.

He is now in the market for a new job and will not rule out returning to Scotland, though he was reluctant to discuss the post at Hibernian while Stubbs is still officially employed at Easter Road.

"I've always been ready to go back north of the border for the right opportunity", Evans said on Sky Sports News on Tuesday night.

"That's not me putting myself up for the Hibs job as Alan Stubbs is still the Hibernian manager until such time as he puts pen to paper with a great chairman down at Rotherham.

"There are a number of opportunities out there in the market place at present and if they are looking for a coach, a manager who can deliver them promotion, then three promotions in eleven, twelve years or whatever it is is a fantastic record and it comes through hard work and dedication.

"So I'm now officially looking for a role, the first time in a long time, and I hope to find the right one.

"It has to be right for me and it has to be right for the chairman, the club and the supporters of wherever I might end up", the now former Leeds boss concluded.

Hibernian failed to win promotion from the Scottish Championship this season, but did win the Scottish Cup, which means Europa League football is on the agenda at Easter Road next term.
