New Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has revealed that Jurgen Klopp was massive factor when he decided to move to Anfield this summer, which he is also pocketing a substantial pay rise.

The 22-year-old German goalkeeper joined the Reds from Klopp’s former club Mainz this summer, and will fight it out with Simon Mignolet next season for the number one jersey at Anfield.

A former Manchester City academy player, Karius has made huge strides over the last few years and his performances at Mainz last season made him one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool snapped up the young shot-stopper for a fee of £4.7m, and Karius admits that Klopp’s record with young players was a huge influence when he was making the decision to join the Reds.

On Klopp, the Karius told German magazine Sport Bild: “He was a very big factor.

“He is one of the best coaches in the world and has already shown how good he is in helping young players to develop.”

He also added that Liverpool’s rich history, the unique atmosphere that Anfield provides and the pay package also played major roles in his decision to move to Merseyside this summer.

“The tradition of the club and the atmosphere here is not so common in this world anymore.

“And of course I have financially improved with the transfer, so all in all a perfect package.”
