Sampdoria have joined the chase for the signature of Leeds United central defender Giuseppe Bellusci, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

The defender endured a difficult 2015/16 season at Elland Road and received widespread criticism for a few costly errors in the second half of the campaign, which resulted in Leeds losing points.

There was also speculation that he threw tantrums after being dropped from the team towards the end of the season, and he was not even part of the Leeds squad for their last three league games.

The defender has offers to move back to Italy as Ascoli are keen to take him back to his homeland, but it seems Bellusci has managed to attract interest from Serie A clubs as well.

It has been claimed that Sampdoria are keen to snare him away from Leeds, and coach Vincenzo Montella wants Bellusci to join him at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris this summer.

The defender worked under Montella at Catania before he joined Leeds in 2014, and could be tempted to move to the Serie A outfit, who finished 15th last season.

Bellusci has made 61 appearances for Leeds over the last two seasons and has a contract until 2018 with the club.
