Leeds United have sacked head coach Steve Evans, but club chairman Massimo Cellino did not tell him in person.

Evans was out of contract with Leeds at the end of June, but despite more than succeeding with the remit Cellino gave him, that of keeping the Whites in the Championship, he has been shown the door.

The Scot becomes Cellino's sixth managerial victim at Leeds in the space of two seasons as chaos continues to reign in the dugout at Elland Road.

Evans has consistently talked up his good relationship with Cellino, but was stung when the Italian refused to speak to him over his future following the end of the season.

And according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Cellino did not tell Evans he was being sacked in person, despite the Scot being at Elland Road today.

It remains to be seen who the Whites choose to appoint as Evans' successor, but they have already been knocked back by MK Dons boss Karl Robinson and Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke.

Leeds also have yet to arrange any pre-season friendlies.
