Former Swansea City boss Garry Monk is the new favourite to take over at Leeds United after the Whites suffered a string of disappointments as potential candidates made themselves unavailable.

Leeds had approached MK Dons boss Karl Robinson, but following a meeting with Whites owner Massimo Cellino, Robinson knocked back the job.

Cellino then chased Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke, but he ruled himself out by penning a new deal with the newly promoted League One side.

John Sheridan was also mooted as a leading contender, but he chose to drop down to League Two with Notts County.

Now Monk leads the betting at bookmakers Skybet and is 4/6 to be in charge of Leeds for the first game of the new season.
