Newly appointed Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has insisted that the Elland Road based club present the right challenge for him.

37-year-old Monk, who was a centre-back best known for his stint at Swansea from 2004, was sacked as manager at the Liberty Stadium in early December after the Swans were struggling near the relegation zone.

Monk captained Swansea throughout their journey from League Two to the Premier League until 2014, when he was appointed as manager after Michael Laudrup was axed as the boss of the Welsh club.

Leeds, who finished 13th in the Championship, 15 points adrift of the final playoff position, recently axed Steve Evans and have now appointed Monk on a one-year deal.

Monk, who has previously plied his trade at clubs such as Barnsley and Southampton, has said that Leeds are a club that present the right challenge for him.
