Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Arsenal and Chelsea target Alvaro Morata in the summer, according to Madrid-based daily Marca.

The striker, who joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2014, has been heavily linked with quitting the Italian champions in the summer.

Real Madrid have a buy-back clause in their sale agreement with Juventus and are ready to invoke it, but Los Blancos are expected to sell him as soon as they take him to the Bernabeu in order to realise an instant profit.

The Spaniard, who will represent his nation in the European Championship in France, could yet remain at the Bernabeu if Real Madrid indeed exercise their buy-back clause.

However, in a new twist in the transfer saga, Atletico Madrid have entered the race for Morata, who scored 12 goals and provided as many assists in 47 appearances in all competitions last season.

At the moment, Morata’s transfer to the Vicente Calderon Stadium seems doubtful, given the superior resources of Arsenal and Chelsea, while Real Madrid are reluctant to sell to their city rivals.

However, in a boost for Atletico Madrid, at least one suitor appears to have dropped out of the race in the form of Manchester United.

The 23-year-old, whose present contract with Juventus runs until 2020, has eight caps and a goal for Spain to his name.
