Manchester City starlet Chidiebere Nwakali’s elder brother Allwell has claimed that the Citizens turned down an approach from Celtic regarding the his sibling.

The 19-year-old, who joined Manchester City’s youth set-up from Nigerian outfit Shuttle Sports Academy in January 2014, is currently on a loan spell at IK Start.

Nwakali’s loan deal with the Norwegian club is due to expire in the coming weeks and the defensive midfielder-cum-defender is yet to take a call on his future.

The Nigerian recently travelled to Manchester as the youngster’s representatives want him to start playing for the Etihad Stadium outfit.

However, Celtic, who recently appointed Brendan Rodgers as their new manager, made an approach to sign Nwakali last week, with Manchester City turning it down.

“He was in Manchester to see the officials after he was given a two-week break by IK Start to find out if he will take part in pre-season.

"We are working hard for him to start playing for Man City."

He has represented Nigeria up to Under-20 level.
