Former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has denied suggestions that he might quit Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG in order to head back to the Premier League with Chelsea.

Gyan is no stranger to English football having turned out for Sunderland from 2010 until a loan move to United Arab Emirates side Al Ain in September 2011, a deal which saw the striker earn a hefty pay rise.

He racked up the goals in the United Arab Emirates, something which caught the attention of Shanghai SIPG, who tempted Gyan to China with a weekly salary offer of £227,000.

Injuries have restricted his impact in China and a potential move to Chelsea has been mooted. But Gyan insists there is no truth in thoughts he might head to Stamford Bridge, while Shanghai SIPG are not about to show him the door.

"I don’t believe in internet stories", he explained to Ghana-based radio station BOSS FM.

"There is nothing like I’m joining Chelsea FC. There hasn’t been any offer.

"My team is not sacking me. All these stories are not true", Gyan added.

The 30-year-old would likely have to take a substantial pay cut if he did want to join Chelsea at as present he is one of the highest paid players in world football.
