Rangers winger Barrie McKay believes he did ‘okay’ in his six-minute cameo performance on his Scotland debut against France last Saturday.

After an impressive season at Rangers, where he won the Scottish Championship and the Challenge Cup, the winger earned a place in the Scotland squad.

And after warming the bench against Italy last month, the 21-year-old finally made his debut for the Scots when he came on as a late substitute in their 3-0 loss to France last weekend.

While he has conceded that the result could have been different, McKay admits that it was a proud moment for him to make his Scotland debut and despite a cameo role, the winger feels he did alright against one of the best national teams on Saturday.

The Rangers man told the club’s official website: “It was the first cap for my country at first-team level. I came up through the youth system in Scotland, so to be able to make my first-team debut was a proud moment for me.

“Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we wanted.

"That would have made it an even more special occasion for myself. I think I did okay playing against one of the best teams, if not the best team, in Europe.

“It was always going to be hard to get a few touches on the ball, but I did do it.”

McKay clocked up 48 appearances for Rangers last season in all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing 13 assists for his team-mates.
