Manchester United linked forward Antoine Griezmann has agreed terms over a new contract with Atletico Madrid, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

The 25-year-old forward, who joined Los Colchoneros from Real Sociedad in 2014, has been in pristine form for the Spanish giants over the last couple of seasons and scored 31 goals for the club in the recently concluded campaign.

Manchester United, who are looking to bolster their forward line after a lacklustre season in front of goal, identified Griezmann as a top target for the summer transfer window.

It has been suggested that new manager Jose Mourinho likes the look of the Frenchman and the club were set to break the bank to sign the player in the coming months.

However, Griezmann has poured cold water over Manchester United’s hopes of signing him as it has emerged that the Frenchman has agreed to sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid.

The forward has agreed terms over a new five-year contract with the Spanish giants and is set to receive a considerable pay rise once he puts pen to paper on the new deal.

Griezmann remains a crucial cog in Atletico Madrid’s machine and the club were in no mood to lose the player, as they continue to look to challenge the duopoly of Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain.

Griezmann has scored 57 goals in 103 appearances for the club in the last two seasons.
