Former QPR manager Harry Redknapp feels sure that Joey Barton has recommended defender Clint Hill to Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

Rangers have been linked with making a move for 37-year-old defender Hill, who is a free agent after he was released by QPR earlier this summer.

Barton, who has already made the move to Rangers, played alongside Hill at QPR and Redknapp thinks the midfielder has spoken to Warburton and advised him to move for his old team-mate.

Redknapp explained to STV: "He and Joey Barton were very important players [at QPR].

"I would think Joey's put in a good word for him and told the manager what a good lad he is and how he'd be a good signing", he added.

Hill will turn 38 years old when the new season in Scotland is a matter of months old, but Warburton has been keen to add experience to his Ibrox outfit ahead of their first season back in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers already have one veteran in the shape of striker Kenny Miller, who is currently 36 years old.

Hill helped QPR to promotion to the Premier League twice during his time at Loftus Road.
