Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba has emerged as a possible summer target for Serie A outfit Fiorentina, according to Sky Italia.

The Magpies snapped up the 21-year-old defender from Anderlecht as part of the spending spree last summer, and other than an injury in the middle of the season, he was a regular starter at St. James’ Park.

However, Mbemba’s defensive performances were not enough to stop Newcastle from suffering relegation from the Premier League and he has become one more player who has been linked with a move away from the club.

The Congolese international is said to be considering his future at the club following the Magpies’ drop to the Championship and it has been suggested that he has suitors in Italy.

Fiorentina are in the market for a defender this summer, and it has been claimed Mbemba is one of the players the club are following with interest, with the intention of snapping him up.

Rafael Benitez has insisted that none of his top players are available in the market, but it could be the club are currently struggling to convince their stars to continue on Tyneside.

Mbemba has a contract until 2020 with Newcastle and Fiorentina are expected to face stiff resistance from the Magpies if they make a concrete move for the defender in the coming months.
