Serie A outfit Genoa are interested in signing Manchester City striker Ruben Sobrino, who is currently on loan at Spanish outfit Girona.

A product of Real Madrid's academy, Manchester City snapped up the Spanish striker last summer from Ponferradina and immediately loaned him out to Girona on a season-long loan deal.

He missed a large part of the season due to injury but he came to the fore during the playoffs when he scored a brace against Cordoba in the playoff semi-final and also found the net in the first leg of the final against Osasuna last night.

His performances towards the end of the campaign have caught the eye of a few clubs and according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Genoa are considering signing the striker this summer.

Genoa, who finished eleventh in Serie A last season, are looking for a forward in the market and Sobrino has emerged as a viable target for the Italian club.

A number of English clubs are also considering making a move for the 24-year-old, and Manchester City could expect to receive a few bids for the Spaniard in the coming months.

It remains to be seen whether new Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has any first team plans for Sobrino, who has represented Spain at Under-19 level.
