Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum’s agent has insisted that there has been no progress in talks with Roma over a summer move to the Stadio Olimpico.

The 25-year-old midfielder’s future at the club has been under the scanner since Newcastle suffered relegation from the Premier League last month, with a move to Italy believed to be on the cards.

One of the better players for the Magpies in a dreadful campaign, the Dutchman has not struggled to attract interest and there is speculation that Roma are keen to snare him away from Tyneside this summer.

And it has also been claimed that Roma are now close to reaching an agreement with Newcastle over a deal to sign Wijnaldum for a transfer fee of around €20m in the coming days.

However, Humphry Nijman, the player’s agent, rubbished the recent claims and insisted that negotiations have not progressed with Roma so far.
