Barcelona have continued to hold talks with Lyon over a proposed transfer for defender Samuel Umtiti, but the French club are considering raising their asking price for the player.

The 22-year-old French defender has come on the radar of some top clubs across Europe with his assured performances for Lyon over the last few seasons, and Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that his side are tracking the talent.

However, Barcelona are the ones who are doing all the running at the moment in order to snap up Umtiti and have been holding talks with Lyon over a proposed move over the last few days.

Barcelona have reportedly offered €25m for the 22-year-old, but are yet to reach an agreement with Lyon over a deal that would see Umtiti wear the Blaugrana colours next season.

With Umtiti in the France squad for the European Championship, according to French sports daily L’Equipe, Lyon are considering increasing the asking price for the defender in the wake of his recent progress.

Barcelona and Lyon have continued to hold talks and while the recent development could prove to be a hurdle, the interested parties are confident that an agreement is on the cards over Umtiti’s move to the Nou Camp.

Lyon are also happy with the way the 22-year-old has conducted himself despite the speculation and it has been suggested that the negotiations could pick up pace in the coming days.

A product of the Lyon academy, Umtiti has made 170 senior appearances for the club and has a contract until 2019.
